Remedial and Sports massage are the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the muscles, soft tissue, ligaments and tendons of the body.

Sports massage therapy is geared toward athletes of every kind, from world-class professionals to weekend joggers.

The particulars of the sports massage technique are specific to the athlete's sport of choice. Focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements.

My sports massages in Croydon and surrounding areas can be used to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event.

How will Sports Massage & Remedial Massage benefit you?
Whoever you are or whatever you do, sports and remedial massage is one of the most effective and readily available ways to prevent and treat muscle injuries, pain and soreness.
How could it benefit a non sport person?
Occupational, emotional and postural stress can leave a person with low back ache, neck stiffness, shoulder aches, hip pain etc. You may recognise some of the common conditions: carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, tennis elbow, to name but a few.

These common conditions and the problems they cause may be alleviated by massage techniques designed to treat both deep and superficial tissues, not dissimilar to those used in sports massage.
How could it help after an accident?
Following an accident and particularly after a period of immobility, muscles can become stiff and tire easily.

You may be left with restrictions in movement due to the formation of scar tissue. Whiplash after a car accident; muscle strains and sprains following a fall; overuse injuries from using a keyboard all day, etc. Sports Remedial massage may help with rehabilitation.
How could it help a sports person?
There are three areas where sports massage is used to benefit athletes.

1) Maintenance Treatment:
A regular massage treatment programme based on the therapists understanding of anatomy and of the muscles used in a given sport can help the athlete maintain or improve range of motion and muscle flexibility.

2) Event Massage:
Event Massage is used by serious and occasional athletes alike to help prepare the body for an event with the aim of warming tissues to avoid injury; and to cool down after the event to help prevent muscle aches and stiffness.
Pre-event treatment is used as a supplement to an athlete’s warm-up to enhance circulation and reduce excess muscle tension prior to event.
Post-event treatment is aimed at reducing the muscle spasms and metabolic build-up that occur with rigorous exercise, and reducing the risk of injury.

3) Rehabilitation:
Even with preventative maintenance, muscle cramp, tear, bruise, and ache. Sports massage can speed healing and reduce discomfort during the rehabilitation process. Soft tissue techniques employed by sports massage therapists are effective in the management of both acute and chronic injuries.

In all cases, a variety of techniques are used in collaboration with other appropriate medical care to give you the best treatment possible.
Running Gait Analysis
As a nation we're gripped by running, but most of us have fallen foul of injury, and those who haven't are probably holding back and not realising their true potential.

Gait analysis examines how your body mass as a whole and can help drill down areas which are contributing to injuries or stopping you from achieving that PB.

The benefit of using a specialist Gait Analysis Sports Therapist, is that we are trained to observe and screen movement patterns, to identify your issues quickly, (& without selling you a pair of running shoes at the end of it).

At the track or treadmill I use video to accurately analyse and assess your movements. This helps me ascertain exactly what is going wrong with your movement and what we can do to help you get back on track.

I get regular sports massage with William and it has really helped prevent injury and enhance my training I have reached my personal best in running events. Although it's not always relaxing William knows when he has reached the tight muscles and works on them adequately.
Jolene S (Runner)
I wanted to complete the New York tunnel to towers 5km run and, being 50 plus and not particular fit, I knew that I had a lot of work to do. William was recommended to me as a pt. He encouraged and motivated me and makes the training sessions fun and rewarding. His knowledge with regards to diet and nutrition is extensive and his communication style makes it easy to put theory into practice. As a result I completed the run in a respectable time! William's genuine enthusiasm came through on every session and I cant recommend him highly enough.
